Your Summer Camp Teachers
Rick Tan
Woodworking Teacher | Grades Track Dr. Tan loves the sound of hammers hammering and sand paper sanding! He enjoys sharing the process of transforming wood into beautiful and functional pieces. He is a Waldorf-certified teacher who has taught at public schools, private, and homeschooling programs, as well as for adult workshops. Dr. Tan holds an MD and a BA in biological sciences. He is an artist, musician, and craftsperson, who co-founded Syrendell with his wife Jennifer. They have four children and live in Davis, CA, with a cat named George. |
Jennifer Tan
Handwork Teacher | Grades Track Mrs. Tan says one can never have enough yarn! If it can be carded, spun, dyed, woven, crochet, knitted, and felted, wool is magically transformed into art in Mrs. Tan's hands. Her teaching and administrative credentials, along with being a business owner, and homeschooling mother of four make her quite the jane of all trades. Mrs. Tan has a BA in classical civilizations and an MA in educational administration. She has been teaching camps for over fourteen years. If she is not spinning yarn at home, she is at a yarn shop. |
Gesche Johnson
Culinary Arts Teacher, Week Two | Grades Track Ms. Johnson dove into the food industry when she worked on a commercial fishing boat at the age of fifteen. In her extensive travels around the world, she learned about Thai, Indian, and Mediterranean cuisine. With her knowledge and experience, a love of the culture surrounding food, and close ties with organic farmers in Yolo County, Ms. Johnson founded Gesche's Gourmet in 2013. She is also a Level 1 Sommelier, for when we do an adults-only summer camp! |
Brian Wolfe
Culinary Arts Teacher, Week One | Grades Track Mr. Wolfe has spent his entire adult life cooking and eating, playing music, teaching, drawing , and coaching Waldorf students. He is currently teaching art to teacher-trainees, coaching at the Sacramento Waldorf School, and is the co-founder of Waldorfish with wife Robyn. Mr. Wolfe is a Waldorf-trained teacher and holds a BS in psychology. He lives in Woodland, CA, with his wife Robyn and two children, two cats, and seven guitars. |
Trisha Lambert
Teacher | Early Childhood Track Mrs. Lambert is a seasoned Waldorf teacher who loves art, crafts, and teaching children! She is a preschool teacher at Live Oak Waldorf in Meadow Vista, and lives in Peaceful Valley, CA, with her husband Chris. Mrs. Lambert has a BA in early childhood development. Her vast teaching experience in early childhood is a gift to the Syrendell Summer Camp program as she guides the little ones in a warm and imaginative world of playtime, wonder, and crafts. Hopefully, she will wear her super cute hat at camp! |
Sabrina Esposo
Teacher | Early Childhood Track Ms. Esposo has been with Syrendell Summer Camp for 9 years. She returns year after year from Hawaii to spend her summer doing what she loves: teaching children. And seeing their joy at learning! She is currently a teacher at Kamalani Academy, Wahiawa, Hawaii. If we can lure her from Hawaii to Davis, CA, for a couple of weeks, you know Syrendell Summer Camp must be fabulous! When not at our camp, she is dancing and spending time at the beach with family and friends! |
Karen Hansen
Teacher | BeforeCamp and AfterCamp Care Syrendell AfterCamp is an extension of our Summer Camp program that happens, well, after camp. It is an opportunity for children to continue with the same caliber of care we give throughout the day. Led by teacher Mrs. Karen Hansen, the children will see nature as a sacred reflection of their own beauty and potential, with centering exercises that flow into free play, and optional arts and craft activities. Ms. Hansen brings her tender spirit and her expertise to each interaction with the camp children. |
